LUBA SOROCHKINA
comes from a family of musicians. She began playing piano at the age of five. She graduated with honors from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and continued her education as a post graduate at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music. She studied under such famous musicians as Yacov Milstrin, Alexander Gedeke and Mariya Greenberg. Ms. Sorochkina is a pianist with vast and varied repertoire, known for her bright individuality and romantic character. In Russia, she frequently gave recitals and performed with various orchestras and conductors, including the well known conductor, Kirill Kondrashin.
She also demonstrated her talent as a research musician, writing musical critiques and articles on piano music interpretation. Her work has been published in “Soviet Music” and “Musical Encyclopedia”.
     
During her forty yhears as a music professor at the Glinka Conservatory in Nizi Novgorod (formerly Gorky), Ms. Sorochkina taught many students. Of these, more than seventy are now touring artists in Russia and Europe, or are themselves teaching a new generation of artists.
     
Ms. Sorochkina immigrated to the United States in 1993 with her family. She is currently living in Encino, California, where she performs recitals, gives piano lessons, and conducts Master Classes. Until recently, she was a member of the UCLA piano faculty.
